Adelante Colorado builds the capacities of Latino-led and serving leaders and nonprofits organizations in Colorado through grants, leadership development, and customized engagement. Through a culturally grounded process, a total of 22 established nonprofit organizations were selected to participate in the first cohort of the three-year Adelante Colorado capacity building program in 2021.

These statewide organizations were selected through a rigorous multi-step process that included a Conocimiento “getting to know you” phase. By integrating a culturally relevant review approach, LCFC shifted traditional philanthropic practices that are heavily rooted in transactional relationships and formalized metrics. Instead, LCFC prioritized personal conversations and storytelling that led to an understanding of each unique organization’s evolution, vision, and leadership.

How does LCFC invest?

During the three-year Adelante Colorado program, LCFC provides capacity-building grants between $45,000 and $150,000 to each organization for a total of $2 million in direct funding to participating nonprofits. In addition to the financial support, grantees have access to bi-annual cohort convenings, leadership retreats and trainings, and 1-1 support so that they can envision and implement a unique pathway for a bold and courageous evolution. The cohort convenings gather organizational Executive Directors/CEO and board leaders together to assess strengths, discuss challenges, share best practices, and learn from experts in the field. They also create an opportunity for connection and partnership that ultimately build power and unity among the statewide Latino nonprofit sector. With more robust Latino-led and serving nonprofits leading the way, we will shape a vibrant future for Latino communities in the areas of health, education, workforce, civics, environment, economics, arts and culture, and more.

Why Adelante Colorado?

Adelante Colorado was formed to tackle the inequities rooted in philanthropy that often prevent Latino-led nonprofits from building proactive, nimble and strategic organizations that can respond to our community’s growth, diversity and impact. It is imperative that the Latino nonprofit community play a critical role in strengthening civic, social, and cultural infrastructure so that Latinos can contribute to a vision of a better Colorado for everyone.

Colorado Latino nonprofits have been asked to rethink, reimagine and rebuild their organizations to new heights. Rather than reacting to community needs in the future, we envision a robust post-COVID Latino nonprofit-sector that is well prepared for any emergency that comes our way.

If Colorado is to continue to prosper, so must the Latino community—a community that will make up a third of the state’s population in 20 to 25 years. Latinos will play an expanding role in the workforce, economic growth, leadership, political, education and the health of the community and we want to be ready.
